More Than 50pct Of RM100 Million Allocation To Develop Digital Content Industry Utilised
30 Sep 2015, bernama
CYBERJAYA, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- More than 50 per cent of the RM100 million allocated for development of the Digital Content Industry has been used so far to improve the capability of local creative industry players, said Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari.
Speaking at the prize giving ceremony for the 2015 Creative Youth League (CYL) here today, he said part of the funds allocated in the 2015 Budget was also used to build up the self-esteem of the younger generation involved in the field.
"We have put in place various initiatives to create a conducive environment for the development of the local creative industry," he said, adding that it was in line with the goal of making Malaysia a global centre and hub for the communications, information and multimedia sector.
He said a platform as the CYL can help increase the competitiveness among high school students to develop the human capital that have added value in the field of innovation and creative industries.
Jailani said that over the five years of holding the CYL, a total of 13,000 entries were received by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and 53,000 students have been trained under the programme.
"During this time, CYL has produced some names which prove that this programme is successful in developing human capital, and improving the skills of the participants," he said.
He cited, as an example the success of third place winners of CYL 2014, SMK Cherang Ruku, Kelantan, which went on to win the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Asian International Children Film Festival in Japan last year.
This year's competition themed 'Broadband Innovation-Malaysian Digital Lifestyle', comprises several categories, namely Video, Mobile Applications, Internet Portal, as well as a new one - Raspberry Pi & Arduino.
