ARAU, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- The people in Perlis, particularly those in the rural areas would potentially have full access to high speed broadband (HSBB) by the end of next year, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

He said the collective access would enhance the economic and social status, as well as narrow the digital divide between the urban and rural communities.

"The establishment of this service under the 1Malaysia Internet Centre (PI1M) programme costs around RM43 million," he told reporters after launching a PI1M at a public housing area here yesterday.

Azlan said Perlis currently has 12 PI1M and the government through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission would add more centres from time to time.

According to him, each PI1M has 20 computers for utilisation by the public from as low as RM1 per hour, and also provides free WiFi.
