Three Initiatives To Promote E-commerce In Langkawi This Year - Jailani

18 May 2016

LANGKAWI, May 16 (Bernama) -- The Communications and Multimedia Ministry will implement "Langkawi Address For All" project, one of its three initiatives, beginning this year to promote e-commerce activities in the duty-free island.

Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the project was aimed to facilitate transactions for delivery and receiving goods which can benefit about 50,000 people in the island.

"With such implementation, the people in Langkawi would be able to use the address to receive letters and conduct e-commerce activities," he told a press conference after officiating the Asian-Pacific Postal Union Executive Council Meeting here, today.

He said for the second initiative, both Pos Malaysia and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would carry out a "Post Tourism" project in Langkawi, pending actions by Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) in identifying a suitable location for the project.

He said the Post Tourism project was implemented in Gunung Kinabalu and Pulau Layang-Layang in Sabah; Tanjung Piai in Johor; and Pulau Redang in Terengganu, before this.

Jailani also said Pos Malaysia and the MCMC were now conducting a study on the suitability in setting up an e-commerce centre in the duty-free island as a third initiative to promote e-commerce activities.
