Connected Communities and Internet of Things: Building Value through Visibility
10 Dec 2014
PETALING JAYA, Dec 10 (Bernama) --
In an effort to promote awareness and to showcase the Connected Communities and IoT initiative, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), University of Malaya (UM) and ICONIX Consulting Sdn. Bhd. are organizing ‘Internet of Things’ Conference and Exhibition on 10 December in UM.
“The event is also in conjunction with MCMC’s Digital Lifestyle Malaysia (DLM) initiative. DLM is an initiative undertaken by MCMC to promote and accelerate the development and adoption of applications and services.
“The conference will be facilitated by prominent industrialists and experts, discussing the latest updates and developments in IoT as well as imparting their knowledge on the benefits, advantages, challenges and costs in espousing Connected Communities and IoT,” said Tengku Zaib, MCMC’s Chief Officer for Services and Support.
One of the highlights of the event is the “’IoT-thon”. The IoT-thon is a competition that is opened to university students where they get to form teams to develop potential IoT application with guidance from industry experts. Participants will also stand a chance to receive goodies and take part in the lucky draw session.
“The IoT-thon participants were given an embedded system, cloud computing platform access and training by Iconix Consulting and IBM prior to the actual competition days”, said Kevin Tan, Managing Director, Iconix Consulting.
“UM wishes to adopt these technologies in making the campus green, sustainable and advanced. UM considers itself as a large experimental bed, a platform for technological demonstration and adoption.”, said Prof Dr Faisal Rafiq, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Development.
We hope the event will provide an enriching experience for all and as a catalyst in accelerating the Digital Lifestyle and Internet of Things in Malaysia.
