MCMC & INTEL MALAYSIA
JOINT PRESS RELEASE
CYBERJAYA, 3 September 2014 --- Patrons of 433 1Malaysia Internet Centres (PI1M) in the country will stand to benefit from the collaboration between Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Intel Malaysia. The collaboration between MCMC and Intel Malaysia was sealed with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at MCMC headquarters, today.
“The collaboration with Intel Malaysia augurs well with MCMC’s efforts and we hope to see many budding as well as existing entrepreneurs from rural and suburban areas benefit from this. More importantly, we hope to see these entrepreneurs drive their local economies and help the Government achieve its aspiration of rural transformation,” said MCMC Chairman, Dato’ Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi.
“PI1M is one of the initiatives under the Universal Service Provision or USP Programme. This programme aims to bridge the digital divide between those in urban and rural areas,” he added.
Under the terms of the MoU, Intel Malaysia will provide the Intel® Learn Easy Steps and Entrepreneurship Basics curriculum to MCMC and facilitate the training of PI1M managers. These PI1M managers will in turn deliver the programmes to the community at the PI1M nationwide.
The Intel® Learn Easy Steps programme addresses the needs of youth and adults around the world to learn basic digital literacy skills that help them participate in the knowledge-economy.
Through the Easy Steps module, the patrons of the PI1Ms will learn basic computer literacy in order to enable enhanced social and economic self-sufficiency. It targets adult and youth learners with little or no computer experience and who are in need of basic technology skills.

The Intel Learn Easy Steps and Entrepreneurship Basics programme will equip the next generation of Malaysian entrepreneurs with the skills and resources they will need to succeed,” said Anshul Sonak, Regional Education Director, Asia Pacific and Japan, Intel Corporation.
