5G Evolution: Considerations for Technology, Spectrum Management, Licensing, and Security
 
On the 26 August, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) incollaboration with Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) held a five-day comprehensive training course titled 5G Evolution: A Considerations of Technology, Spectrum Management, Licensing and Security Implications at The Westin Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant milestone in ASEAN’s journey towards a digital future.This intensive training programme designed and developed by MCMC for the Communications and Multimedia (C&M) Industry, brought together regulatory and industry experts from across the Asia-Pacific region, including participants from Brunei, Iran, Nepal, Fiji, Maldives, Hong Kong, Micronesia, Vanuatu and Malaysia, to explore critical aspects of 5G technology.

An Intensive Programme for the C&M Industry  
The programme provided a comprehensive overview of 5G technology, starting with its core principles and Malaysia's strategic approach for achieving 80% widespread 5G coverage in populated areas. It delved into case studies on the practical implementation of 5G technology, addressing potential vulnerabilities and the measures for protecting data within 5G network to ensure secure communications. The panel discussion explored the need for flexible regulatory frameworks in promoting development, emphasising the balance between regulators and service providers in the industry to ensure a dynamic market environment. Following this the programme explored regulation harmonisation, and policy alignment for technological advancement, highlighting efficient spectrum management and the importance of ecosystem partnerships.

The pogramme incorporated experiential learning whereby participants visited the DNB My5G Portal at TRX Exchange. This visit showcased innovative 5G use cases across various industries, demonstrating the transformative potential of 5G technology. The Programme also featured a field visit at National Information Dissemination Center (NADI) Felda Soeharto, which focused on the application of technological advancements in rural settings, aiming to bridge the digital divide.
