Does equipment which has been certified by a foreign certification bodies need to be recertified before it can be imported into the country?

Yes, all communications equipment shall be certified with the registered certifying agency with MCMC to ensure that the communications equipment comply with the local requirements.
 
However, SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. accepts test reports from:
 

1. Laboratories recognised by MCMC under Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs);
2. Laboratories under SIRIM Berhad or SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd.;
3. Laboratories accredited under Skim Akreditasi Makmal Malaysia (SAMM) which is the national laboratory accreditation scheme managed by Department of Standards Malaysia;
4. Laboratories under IECEE CB Scheme. The SB test report shall be accompanied by CB test certificate; or
5. Laboratories (in the scope of its accreditation) which are accredited by the accreditation bodies that have signed accreditation cooperation agreements with Department of Standards Malaysia (e.g APAC or ILAC).
