Online Content Problems

What are the steps required for me to lodge a complaint regarding online content?

Step 1:
You are encouraged to lodge report(s) or complaint(s) directly to the respective platform provider, content owner, or moderator. If there is no detailed contact information, you may consider using the 'report abuse' mechanism or online form provided by the respective platforms. Self-reporting from the affected individual(s) will be prioritized over third-party reporting.

Step 2:
You may lodge a complaint to MCMC by providing detailed information and supporting documents about the reported content.
  • Complaints on content posted on websites/social media/blog sites
  1. Specific URLs of the content
  2. Screenshot of the specific content being reported, including the date and time it was posted or uploaded
  3. Police Report (if any)
  • Complaints regarding content circulated via private messaging platforms i.e. WhatsApp, LINE, Telegram, etc.
  1. Receiver Number/user ID
  2. Sender Number/user ID
  3. Screenshot of the specific content that you want to report
  4. Police Report (if any)

A copy of the email/letter sent to the website owner/moderator/administrator or other enforcement agencies should also be included (if any).

Complaints can be submitted to MCMC through the MCMC Consumer Redress Portal at aduan.skmm.gov.my.

Step 3:
You may also lodge complaints to relevant authorities like RMP, KPDN, BNM, and other related enforcement agencies. MCMC is not the sole agency authorised to investigate complaints about online content. The content provision on the Internet is bound by all relevant laws in the country and reports/complaints can be lodged to relevant enforcement agencies with matters under their jurisdictions as follows:
